HIGHLIGHTS

  • Natarajan finished with bowling figures of 2-20 in his 4 overs in the 2nd T20I on Sunday
  • He got the wickets of D’Arcy Short and Moises Hendriques in the match
  • Natarajan was only playing his second T20I match after debuting for India on Friday

A lot has already been said and written about the inspirational journey of India pacer T Natarajan from Chinnapampatti, a sleepy village near Salem in Tamil Nadu to the biggest stage in international cricket.

Natarajan came into the spotlight with his fantastic performance for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2020 where he took 16 wickets in as many games. He was also nicknamed the ‘yorker specialist’ after delivering them at will in the tournament. Not many can forget the yorker that he bowled to castle AB de Villiers in the IPL 2020 play-offs.

Australia legend Glenn McGrath, considered to be one of the best bowlers ever to have played the sport, praised the youngster from Tamil Nadu and said that he definitely had to be the find of the tour for India.

“Was very impressed with Natarajan. He’s definitely the find of this tour for India, hopefully he continues,” McGrath said during commentary in the 2nd T20I at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday.

Natarajan was only playing his second T20I match for India and bowled with a lot of skill to finish with figures of 2-20 in 4 overs, in a game where over 400 runs were scored.

Man-of-the-Match Hardik Pandya speaking at the post-match interview also said that T Natarajan was as deserving of the title as he was.

Natarajan should have been Man of the Match, says Pandya

"I thought Natarajan would have been Man of the Match. The other bowlers struggled and he really had a good game, he gave us a target about 10 runs lower than it would have been," Hardik Pandya said.

The pacer has also received praise from former India spinner Harbhajan Singh, who said that he was very happy for the youngster.

"Well, I am so happy for Natarajan. The way he has gone about his life and the way he is performing is unbelievable. It shows that if you keep the faith and keep working hard and believe in yourselves, anything is possible.

"He has been a brilliant bowler for India in this series. He has been one of those major pillars in this series. Picking up wickets when India needed those wickets,” Harbhajan Singh said.
